The Senior Tax Analyst will be primarily responsible for the management of all transactional state & local tax filing projects, including audit defense, managed audits, managed compliance, and review and reconciliation of tax work papers to general ledger for Wyndham Destinations and its Subsidiaries. This individual will be responsible for any tax research related to transactional tax questions using online tax research tools, such as Checkpoint, and respond to inquiries and requests from various taxing authorities, and internal Accounting departments.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinate and review the preparation of monthly transactional tax returns, such as but not limited to, US Sales and Use Tax, lodging taxes, Gross Receipt Tax and Canadian HST/GST.

  • Assist with the coordinating, organizing and managing all transactional state and local tax audits by gathering requested documentation, reviewing supporting work papers and drafting any responses.

  • Perform research as necessary regarding taxation of new business lines and products, keep abreast with current tax laws and rate changes.

  • Review General Ledger accounts to verify account balances and perform related research and analysis.

  • Respond to internal tax inquiries relating to transactional tax.

  • Maintain the Indirect Tax processes such as the SOX controls and the Tax Calendar.

  • Manage the response and resolution of all transactional tax notices and assessments from various tax jurisdictions in a timely manner.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

Education

Bachelors in Accounting, Masters of Taxation, a plus.
 

Training requirements

  • Transactional Tax Training on familiarity with the Federal and Multi-State tax laws and rules relating to hospitality and lodging industry

Knowledge and skills

  • Must be able to communicate articulately both verbally and in writing

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of various teams

  • Must be detail oriented and have strong analytical skills

Technical Skills

  • Excel proficiency  - intermediate

  • PeopleSoft and Oracle Preferred

  • Microsoft Access Preferred

Job experience

  • 5+years overall tax experience; experience in hospitality/lodging industry a plus; some public accounting experience is preferred.

  • CPA license, a plus

Unless there is a legal requirement, experience will be accepted for the education requirement.
