The Senior Linux Engineer / Architect is responsible for technical expertise in the Linux platforms department at Travel + Leisure Co.  The department is responsible for delivery and support of all aspects of the company's Linux environment which is inclusive of the capacity planning, infrastructure buildout, availability monitoring, performance, and security management. The role also partners and provides technical Linux expertise to the Application and Database departments.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Provide technology expertise for Travel + Leisure Co.'s Linux infrastructure environment which is inclusive of capacity planning, infrastructure buildout, availability monitoring, performance and security management

  • Maintain an expert level knowledge of all related IT products, technologies, tools, and methodologies used within the department.
  • Provide technical expertise with regard to Linux infrastructure services, support, and operational policies and procedures.
  • Acquire and maintain working knowledge of business processes and procedures.
  • Interface with other teams, vendors, and business as needed.
  • Anticipate and identify potential problems before they occur and implements solutions to minimize impact on the company.
  • Ensure adherence to all formal legal, compliance, and regulatory processes, standards and total quality practices in all activities.
  • Drive technology innovation and process improvement efforts.

Manage intra-departmental functions

  • Answer questions and provide advice to more junior IT staff to improve their technical and professional skill sets.
  • Maintain a positive and optimistic working environment
  • Recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion
  • Develop and implement performance based statistics and metrics
  • Maximize profitability and productivity through effective utilization of resources and tools
  • Capital and expense budget planning and adherence
  • Provide periodic reports to management and customers on the status of workflow and escalates deviations to management in a timely manner
  • Complete other assignments as requested by management

Work closely with Program Office, Strategy, Engineering, Architecture, and Support groups in achieving departmental and company commitments

  • Manage timelines and progress of activities to ensure schedules and commitments are met
  • Facilitate the completion of workflow by individuals and project teams both inside and outside the IT organization
  • Work closely with delivery organizations to develop project plans and forecasts for the delivery of solutions to the business
  • Provide technology direction and guidance to business areas as appropriate
  • Meet or exceed schedules, budgets, and quality targets

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

Training Requirements

  • Red Hat or Oracle Enterprise Linux/Dell Technologies/EMC/VMWare certifications on technologies is a plus.

Knowledge and skills

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot in a crisis
  • Ability to work with  cross functional teams for in depth project planning and issue resolution
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong planning and project management skills
  • Adept at multi-tasking and working with others in a fast moving and changing environment
  • Ability to organize, create, follow and coordinate the update of documented processes
  • Strong self-sufficiency and independent work ethic.
  • The ability to learn quickly, work autonomously and make sound decisions
  • Results-oriented and able to deliver and lead delivery in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to organize, plan, exercise good judgment, and manage multiple requirements in a timely manner
  • Excellent customer service, communication and technical documentation skills

Technical Skills

  • Technology based background with solid understanding of relevant technologies (Red Hat Enterprise Linux , Oracle Enterprise Linux, UNIX, VMware ESXi, Red Hat Satellite, Red Hat directory server, Linux shell scripting, EMC SAN technologies, LAN, WAN, Networking, Information Security, Monitoring and Logging Tools)
  • Experience working in multiple-site, multiple vendor team environment.
  • Knowledge of the SDLC and ability to follow documented processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in planning, deploying and managing Linux infrastructure technologies.

Job experience

  • At least 10 years of work experience in progressively responsible roles.
  • At least 7 years direct experience with Linux infrastructure technologies within a large enterprise environment
  • Minimum 3 years managing large IT technology environments.
  • Hospitality industry IT is a plus.
